Sir,

I have the honour to forward for your information copies of correspondence with the General Officer Commanding Troops on the subject of the representation of the Royal Army Medical Department on the Sanitary Board. A similar request has been made by the Naval Authorities.

2. Having received on the 5th June a copy of a letter written by the General Officer Commanding to the Secretary of State for War, I considered the statements made in that communication so serious that I at once called upon the Chairman of the Sanitary Board for his remarks in explanation. On receipt of his first report, I called for a further report by the minute of which a copy is enclosed. From those reports, you will be able to form an opinion as to the statements put forward by the Principal Military Medical Officer, and as to the work done by the Sanitary Board.

3. You are aware that the question of the constitution of the Sanitary Board has been a burning one of...

The Right Honourable JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P., &c. &c.
